Sellers original description:

1971 Karmann Ghia Coupe fitted with a 1914cc engine.

This car has undergone a complete nut and bolt restoration over the last four years only being finished in time for the Volksworld Show in March 2013 where it was on show.

The car was originally built in January 1971 and shipped to Boston, USA. The car was imported to the UK from California in 2002 and spent the next six years in storage before I purchased it. The car was a very good solid example and required only replacement floor pans, all other bodywork is original. As can be seen from the pictures above and below this car has wanted for nothing.

The restoration included the body and floor pan being split, the body was then media blasted and a full professional bare metal respray carried out in an original VW colour, Prairie Beige before the car was rebuilt. The underside of this car has been finished to the same high quality as the parts you can see. The rebuild included many new parts such as replacement wiring harness, uprated and lowered suspension, all braking system has been replaced and a complete interior retrim was undertaken. Many period accessories have been fitted such as the original Hurst Shifter, Momo steering wheel and Performance Industries wheels. I have pages and pages of receipts and invoices for thousands of pounds and have records of everything that has been spent.

The car is MOT'd until March 2014 and is tax exempt.

Specifications :-

Engine.

The engine is a 1914cc Type 1 duel relief case, running a counter weighted crank, lightened flywheel and an uprated clutch. Camshaft is an Engle 120. All pistons and conrods were match weighted. Carbs are Dellorto Twin 40's with K&N filters. These have had a complete rebuild and have been jetted and set up on a rolling road.
Ignition system is a Pertronics Flame Thrower II distributor and coil with uprated 8mm leads.
Fuel sytem runs a CB rotary pump with a Malpasi Filter King filter and pressure regulator.
Full flow oil system with remote filter, 13 row cooler, CB wide sump and custom made breather box.
Exhaust system is a full stainless CSP Competion system.
Engine pulls like a train, is very torquey and produced 120bhp on the rolling road. In such a lightweight car this makes for a fun and fast drive.

Suspension & Brakes.

Slamwerks 4" narrowed beam fitted along with CB dropped spindles. Front and rear uprated and lowered KYB shock absorbers. Replacement rear trailing arm bushes.
Front disc brakes with refurbished calipers and rear drum brakes. All brake linings and handbrake cables replaced.

Complete retrim including front high back Beard Race Seats and rear seats. Work was carried out by Trimming Tonic. Replacement door cards from West Coast Metric, replacement carpet set from Newton Commercial. Simpson harnesses. Hurst Shifter. Momo Steering wheel. Auto Meter rev counter with shift light plus Taylor mounting bracket Auto Meter oil pressure and oil temperature gauges fitted in a polished stainless steel footwell mounted pod. New dash top and dash face fitted.
Amp with ipod connection fitted in glove box powering Rockford Fosgate speakers.
Original instruments have undergone a full refurbishment.

Exterior.

Original bumpers have been rechromed and European over riders fitted, new old stock door top chrome and rear pop out window chrome trims fitted. Replacement side trims fitted.
Complete full set of West Coast Metric window, door and trim seals fitted.
Genuine clear front indicator lenses.

Wheels & Tyres.

Original and rare Performance Industries alloy wheels fitted with a full matching set of Michelin tyres.

Since finishing the car it has been to many VW shows including a trip to European Bug In in Belgium. I would not hesitate to jump in this car and set of anywhere. I'm only selling as a bigger house is required !

As you can tell this car has wanted for nothing and below are some more pictures of the work that has been undertaken and of the car as it is now. This is a rare opportunity to own a solid and sorted Karmann Ghia and not the usual rotters found in the UK.
