1974 Classic Volkswagen VW
Sun Bug Beetle Limited Edition
(Featured on 21st January 2012)
Sellers original description:
In the 1970's, Volkswagen factories in Germany produced a range of limited edition super Beetles, with a number of them exclusive to different countries.
In 1974 they produced the "Sun Bug" which was exclusive to the American market.
It was produced for one year only. Making this car extremely rare.
The "Sun Bug" super Beetle, was produced in an amazing metallic gold colour almost like the brilliance of the sun itself!! The interior was a dark brown in colour, which complemented the overall appearance of this stunning car.
It was provided with a manual metal sunroof fitted at the factory.
In late 1974 this "Sun Bug" was purchased new by an elderly lady in Oregon USA. After a few years of driving she sadly lost her health and the car was put away in a barn on the family farm.
On her passing the car was left to a grandson, the car was forgotten about and was subsequently left untouched for the next 32 years in the barn, dry stored.
Eventually the farm was sold and the Bug re-emerged, the grandson had no interest in the car and decided to sell it.
It was sold to a VW dealer in Washington state in the USA who re-fettled the car, it had a few minor scratches that he had repainted, thus bringing the car back to its former glory, please be aware that the car still has a few stone chips here and there if you look closely.
I became aware of the car being available through a friend and decided to purchase the car to add to my own collection.
The mileage on the speedometer shows an incredible 13,500 miles, which is believed to be correct given its condition and history.
( driven by an elderly lady and dry stored for 32 years ).
This is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a genuine, low mileage, limited edition collectors car.
