Sellers original description:

1979 MG Midget. It is one of only 500 made painted black with a black vinyl interior in the last year of production. It has had only one previous owner to myself and throughout it’s life has been garaged and cared for immensely. It benefits from being lightly restored 17 years ago by a recognised restoration company in which it had a full body respray and mechanical overhaul. The car is 100% accident free.

Mechanical:

Mechanically the Midget is without fault. It starts every time without fail. When it’s cold a small amount of choke is all it needs for it to start up first time. After about a mile or so you can push the choke in and it will run fine without stuttering. The engine doesn’t burn oil nor have any leaks. The brakes are effective, braking straight and bringing the car to a stop quickly without locking up. The steering is very delicate and precise, and although not having power steering is very light due to there being a large steering wheel. I filled up with fuel the other day and put in 25 litres of petrol in after doing 207 miles, meaning it averages about 37 miles to the gallon. The heater works extremely well, blowing out warm air after a couple of miles of driving.

Bodywork:

A common problem with all cars of this age is rust. This Midget has no rust on it what so ever. The car has been garaged all of its life and was Ziebarted from new. I have in my ownership sprayed a fine layer of engine oil on the underside of the vehicle to protect it further. All the door shuts are spot on, this is a tell tail sign the car has never had to undergo a major restoration as unless the car is fully jigged up the shuts on the Midget will be out. I welcome anyone to pull up the carpets and pull out the spare wheel as you will not find any rust or even previous history of rust as there are no plates about the body. Please see my photos for pictures of the boot floor.

Paintwork:

The car was restored 17 years ago by a recognised car restoration company which is still in business today. I have the receipt for the work carried out and you are welcome to call him to discuss the car. When being lightly restored the car underwent a full body respray and the engine and gearbox were rebuilt too. The paint is in excellent condition – with exception of one or two stone chips it is near perfect. The solid black colour matches on all panels and has a deep gloss shine as can be seen in the photos.

Interior:

Black vinyl and black carpets. In very good condition- no rips, tears, stains etc. Unlike so many other Midgets it does not have any holes in the dash for other switches, a radio etc. The dash is unmarked and like new. Every switch, knob, gauge and dash lights work.

Hood:

Replaced with a Mohair hood a couple of years ago it is in like new condition. The Mohair hood is the best hood available for Midgets. This is the only modification the car has had since it left the factory. I have the original roof as well if you would like. I also have a dust cover which I will include. The hood can be lowered by a single person in a couple of minutes – I will happily spend time with the new owner talking through all aspects of the car. Including raising and lowering the roof, fitting the partial and full tonneau covers.

Work needing to be done:

None – All ready to go.
